Meet Thumela, an independent South African transactional email product founded by Martin Kruger, and Thumi, its little Kalahari lookout.

Thumela is built by Martin Kruger, through Thumela Online (Pty) Ltd. It began with a practical need: sending transactional email for our own South African products, while keeping recipient processing close to home.

That need became a small API, a local processing path and a product we’re preparing to open to other businesses and developers.

A name with a purpose

Thumela means “send” in isiZulu. It is a simple name for a service with a specific job: the messages that help someone sign in, confirm a purchase or understand what happened to their account.

Meet Thumi

Thumi is our illustrated meerkat, a calm lookout from the Kalahari. You’ll recognise him by the weathered leather messenger satchel at his side.

His family makes an occasional appearance too: his partner, Gogo and three curious pups. They are characters in the brand, not a picture of the team behind the service. By night, even a dependable little lookout needs some sleep.
